Instructions for sending off request files and downloading the answer files.

Check the correct format of electronic tax returns for self-assessed taxes, annual information returns, and income tax returns with Ilmoitin, and send the files on to the public authorities concerned. You can only submit filings with no format errors, sending them one by one. If you are submitting an enclosure, attachment file or an Excel tax return, the system does not check the contents.

Note the following stages when you send in your filings (Stages 1-2):

Stage 1: Sign in

Please sign in before submitting. Use your personal online banking ID or a chip ID card to sign in.

Stage 2: Submittal

After you have successfully signed in, the system will go over the technical correctness of your filing, unless it is only an attachment file to a tax return or a filing in Excel format. Go to Submit tab and press Browse to select the file to be checked. Then press Check file. Ilmoitin.fi will perform the checks and produce a report to show you the results. Reading the report

When check results show that the format is correct you may proceed to click Submit to send the filing.

We send back answer files to you if you have submitted requests for withholding information, individual Tax Numbers, third-party Prepayment and VAT Register information. Fill in the space for your e-mail address if you want to receive a message when your answer file has arrived and is ready for downloading.

To learn more about sending us requests for direct transfers of tax card information and about downloading the answer files, see this video clip.

You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt. It shows the keyManager file name, the new file name assigned to your filing by the Tax Administration, and the time when it was received. The acknowledgement message also shows content information including the quantity of filings or tax returns. You have the opportunity to go to archive later to go over the acknowledgement information. Archive shows the successful filings, attachment files and Excel files submitted previously by the User ID that is currently in session. How to read the Archive

If an error occurs, error messages are sent. They contain instructions for making corrections. An example of common errors is that the sender is not authorized to transmit the filing to the Tax Administration.

Submit Attachments and other filings (Excel)

If the Attachment is a tax-return attachment file or an Excel-formatted filing, www.ilmoitin.fi will not check it.

Open the tab to go to Enclosures when you want to send free-text enclosures to your Income Tax Return filing. Open the tab to go to Other filings when you want to Excel files. Fill in the spaces as required, click Browse to select the file you want and then Submit it.

When submitting attachments remember that you must also submit the main tax return electronically. The Tax Administration will not process an electronically filed attachment file that was received alone i.e. with no electronically filed main filing.

You will receive a confirmation message each time you submit an enclosure or an Excel file showing filename and the date and the time. If an error occurs you will receive an error message. Examples of such errors include lack of sufficient authorisations (of the person who has signed in) and incorrect accounting period. For more information, see the naming convention: Electronically formatted enclosure files to income tax returns.

Stage 3: Downloading the arrived files

We send you an answer file if you have submitted a request for direct transfer of tax-card information - i.e. withholding information, for individual Tax Numbers, for entry in the Prepayment Register, for checks of VAT taxpayer status. You will receive e-mail when the answer file is ready. (Please give your e-mail address.) Answer files are available for downloading at www.ilmoitin.fi. You must sign in with the same web banking ID that you used when submitting the request. Click the name of the file to download it. A message will appear asking you to either Open or Save the file; you must choose Save.
